How to Make 2021 Your Comeback Year!

How to Make 2021 Your Comeback Year!

As you begin this new year, do not let the challenges of 2020 limit your possibilities for 2021. You can shift your attention away from the problems and disappointments of the past to your potential and hope for the future. A fresh perspective can give you the inspiration needed to turn an obstacle into an opportunity. Last year likely felt like a setback; now let’s look forward to making a comeback in the new year.

One big consequence of 2020 was the negativity we experienced. It caused discouragement, anxiety, and resignation. It is easy to fall into a pity-party trap, ask “Why me?” and focus on how unfair your circumstances are and how bad you had it. You have the scars to show for it, but you made it through last year. 2020 is over. You do not live in that year anymore. It is finished and it’s time to move onward and upward.

It is understandable that most people want to slam the door on 2020 and forget it ever happened. While it was a year filled with agonizing losses, it also taught us life-changing lessons that we can use to become the best version of ourselves. Sure, it was a lousy year, but the experience helped you discover your resilience, adaptability, courage, and grit!

Last year also taught us that surprises happen and to expect the unexpected. You cannot predict change, but if you anticipate change, you can prepare for it. Because of what you have experienced in 2020, you are more equipped to rise above uncertainty and disruption.

A few years ago, our pastor shared a message that is relevant for what we have experienced in the past twelve months. He asked the congregation this question: “Are you spending your life or investing your life?” It was an important reminder to focus our attention on what really matters, not spending time on the unimportant or insignificant. 2020 caused many to reevaluate their lives and intentionally invest in what truly matters.

So where do you go from here? One of my coaching clients told me, “This is a great time to be alive because of all the new possibilities the pandemic has created. No matter what business you are in, we are all startups now.” You have an opportunity to dream new dreams, reassess who you are and what you want to become, and pursue your passion. Doing something you have never done before can be both exciting and frightening. It is important to remember that risk and opportunity are partners; you cannot have one without the other.

What happened in 2020 does not define your life or your future. You define your life. Perhaps last year delayed your dreams, but it did not destroy them. You are now more prepared than ever with both inspiration and insight to reach a new level of excellence in 2021!

Happy New Year!
Be well, my friends!
